8th February, 2016.

A Thuisti,

Well done to our five teams that represented the school so well in the Tara & District Credit Union Quiz last week. We had a winning team in the Under 11 competition and they will be representing the school in the final in a few weeks. A big thanks to Mrs Vaughan for preparing the children for the quiz.

Tomorrow is Pancake Tuesday. Sixth class will be making pancakes for all the pupils in the school. We will need a few parents to help the children with the making of the pancakes. If your child is not to get a pancake please let the class teacher know.

Safer Internet Day is celebrated on Tuesday. The aim is to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones among children. Webwise.ie has a section for Parents which gives information about Snapchat, Tinder, Catfishing etc and is well worth logging onto. Webwise.ie can be found on our school website under ‘Links’.

To coincide with Safer Internet Day there will be a Digital Safety seminar in Skryne School on Tuesday February 16th at 7.00p.m. The seminar will cover cyber bullying, internet addiction, social media and gaming and how to manage these digital threats. It will also help in getting you up to speed with your child’s digital world and the different ways to talk to your child about their online world. I strongly recommend attendance at this seminar.

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. Fr. Thomas will be visiting the school. If your child is not to get the ‘ashes’ please let the class teacher know.

All classes will have two further RSE lessons this week. Our RSE policy can be found on the school website.

The school will close at 1.40p.m. for all pupils this Wednesday (February 10th) to facilitate a staff meeting. There is no school bus.

The school will be closed on February 18th and 19th for the mid-term break and on February 26th for voting in the General Elections.

First class have finished the Literacy Lift Off reading programme. They have progressed really well. Senior Infants will start the programme after the mid-term break.

First Confession will take place on Thursday 10th March in Rathfeigh Church at 7.30p.m.

There is a Board of Management meeting tonight in the school.

This week is Enrolment Week. Please call to the office for an application form if your child is starting school in September.

Is mise,

Seamus Tansley.
