A Thuisti,
Spirit of the Final Award
We were delighted to hear last week that Ava Smyth won the Spirit of the Final Award for her performance in the Girls’ Cumann na mBunscol final. This was a very welcome boost after the disappointment of losing in the final. Ava’s presentation is on this Wednesday 4th December at 11.30a.m. in Dunganny GAA Centre. Well done Ava. Congratulations.
Green School
We have recently submitted our application for our first Green Flag which is awarded under the theme of “Litter and Waste”
Our Green school code is:
Being Green and Clean means you’re on the Rathfeigh Recycling Team!
In an effort to significantly reduce the amount of litter and waste in our school we are have asked the children to become more aware of how they bring their lunches to school.
We recommend that they use lunch boxes or paper bags instead of tin foil, cling film or plastic food bags.
We are also asking that everyone brings all their food waste home and recycle any packaging whenever possible.
To decrease our daily single-use plastic waste we are asking everyone to bring a reusable water bottle instead of single use plastic bottles to school.
We appreciate your co-operation to help promote recycling .
Christmas Shoe Box Appeal
We gave information in last week’s newsletter about the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal for disadvantaged children in Meath. If your child is participating in this appeal please bring in the shoe box before Friday 6th December. We have a Christmas Tree at reception and it would be nice for the children to put their shoe boxes under the tree before its collection on Friday.
Parents’ Association
We thank the Parents’ Association for paying €980.00 for a replacement projector and bracket for Ms. Wards’s room.
Christmas Annuals
There are a few Christmas Annuals ( Sugradh, Spraoi and Sonas) remaining in the office at a cost of €4.00. If you wish to buy one please send in money in an envelope as soon as possible.
Christmas Carol Service
The annual Christmas Carol Service will take place on Friday December 20th at 11.00a.m. All classes will be performing a small class play and we will be singing a selection of Christmas songs.
Student Council – written by Amy, Jay Jay, Brooke and Thomas
Some of the classes have gone on educational trips recently.
First and Second class went to the National Botanic Gardens with Ms. Ward. A few weeks ago Third and Fourth class went to Newgrange. We all sat on the bus with our friends. Can you believe we went on four buses. The children in Third and Fourth learned so much. Newgrange is over 5000 years old. On the 21st December is the Winter Solstice. The sun comes in through the roof box on the Winter Solstice and lights up the chamber inside Newgrange. I think all the children in Third and Fourth class really enjoyed it so thank you Mr. Tansley.
Fifth and Sixth class are planning to go to Kilmainham Jail during March 2020 for their trip.
All classes took part in the schools recent Book Fair.
The Shoe Box Appeal – the shoe boxes need to be brought into school this week as they will be collected on Friday December 6th.
The Student Council are planning to do a Christmas Raffle for all students.
Fifth and 6th class along with Ms. Reynolds are working on a Christmas project called “ A Christmas Village” This will be completed in time for the Christmas Carol service in the school on December 20th.
Is mise,
Seamus Tansley.
