A Thuisti,
Enrolment Week
This week is Enrolment Week. If your child is starting in Rathfeigh School in September please fill out an Enrolment Form and give it to Helen this week. If you know anybody else who have children of school going age please let them know about our Enrolment Week. They are welcome to call to the school at any time and I will show them around the school and answer any questions they might have.
Credit Union Quiz
The Tara and District Credit Union Quiz takes place tonight in Skryne School Hall at 6.30p.m. Best of Luck to our six teams participating. Many thanks to Mrs Vaughan for preparing the children so well during the last few weeks.
Defibrillator Training
Teachers were given defibrillator training last week by the First Responders. The First Responders also provide basic first aid training to primary school children. We are hoping to facilitate this before Easter. Having the defibrillator located at the front of the school has the potential to save lives in the Rathfeigh area in the future.
Swimming 4th, 5th and 6th
Swimming takes place after the mid-term break for pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th classes. Swimming fulfils the aquatics module of the P.E. Curriculum as laid down by the Department of Education. Inability to pay will not preclude a pupil from participating in swimming lessons. If a child is unable to attend swimming a letter must be written to the Board of Management requesting an exemption. Please let me know by Wednesday if your child is not going swimming as the cost per pupil for swimming is determined by the number of pupils attending. Our Swimming Policy is on the school website.
Chinese New Year
Tomorrow is the Chinese New Year. A quarter of senior classes have done Powerpoint presentations on the Chinese New Year. As a follow-up to this we are delighted that Yangyun (mum of Chloe, Caitlin and Isabelle) is visiting the school tomorrow to speak to the senior classes about the cultures, languages etc associated with the Chinese New Year. We thank her for giving of her time to come into the school tomorrow.
School Jerseys
We are still missing some gaelic football jerseys. These must be returned by Wednesday. These jerseys were sponsored at great expense. Children who don’t return their jerseys will have to pay for a replacement.
Bookmark Competition
Congratulations to all the winners of the Bookmark competition which was based on the theme of ‘Space’ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first landing on the moon. The standard was very high and it was great to see the children learning and being inquisitive about space and space exploration.
Gaeilge
Speaking Irish outside ‘geataí na scoile’ is vital if children are to improve their confidence in speaking Irish. One approach is Briathar na Seachtaine. The following are the verbs that we have done so far this year. It would be beneficial to check if your child can use these verbs at home. If they use all these verbs daily then it may become a good habit that could result in them enjoying Irish more.

ALDI – Rugby Promotion
Some children have already brought in rugby stickers from ALDI. We have to collect 300 stickers to be in with a chance of winning a prize. We have collected 50 tokens already. Well Done.
