A Thuisti,
The Department of Education & Science launched a new ‘Action Plan on Bullying’ on January 29th. The plan sets out twelve actions to help prevent and tackle bullying in schools (www.education.ie). Among the twelve actions recommended is an anti-bullying policy template and a template for recording incidents of bullying in schools. These should be in place by the start of the new school year.
Our Anti-Bullying Policy was updated to include cyber bullying at the last Board of Management meeting. Recent tragic events have put the issue of cyber bullying to prominence. Cyber bullying is hard to monitor because it can take place in unsupervised spaces and can occur at any time. We, as parents, must be responsible for the actions of our children and should always supervise internet usage of our children. No pupil under 13 years of age is permitted to register with Facebook. Some online forums operate under a cloak of anonymity e.g. the forum Ask.FM which is registered in Latvia. Tuesday 5th February is Safer Internet Day which aims to raise awareness about protecting children online, so that their safety and privacy isn’t compromised while using the internet. A cyber bullying awareness campaign will be launched to coincide with Safer Internet Day (www.webwise.ie). The Parents’ Associations of Rathfeigh & Skryne have organised an information night on ‘Cyber Bullying and Internet Safety’ in Skryne School on Tuesday 5th February at 7.00p.m.
M & M Theatrical Productions are performing Beauty and the Beast in the school on Wednesday (February 6th.) at 1.15p.m. As a result all children will go home at 2.40p.m. The cost per pupil is €5.00. (Please send in money in an envelope).
Gaelic Football coaching for all classes begins on Monday February 11th and then for the following four Tuesdays (February 19th, 26th, March 5th and 12th). This will form part of the P.E. curriculum. Please remind the children to wear their tracksuits on these days.
The Credit Union Quiz takes place tonight in Skryne School Hall at 6.30p.m. Children should arrive at 6.20p.m. for registration. The children should wear their school tracksuit. Parents aren’t allowed stay for the quiz due to the lack of space. The quiz should be over at 8.15p.m. Best of luck to all our teams participating.
As a school we encourage regular attendance from the pupils but if your child is showing symptoms of sickness in the morning please don’t send them to school.
Is mise,
Seamus Tansley.
Priomh Oide.
