A Thuisti,
Parental Declaration Forms
Thanks to all the parents/guardians who sent in Parental Declaration Forms last week when their children were absent. If your child has a cough, runny nose, sore throat etc. then your child should not be in school. In these cases you must contact your G.P. You cannot assume that it’s not Covid. If your child is absent for whatever reason this Parental Declaration Form must be returned through TextaParent before 2pm on the day before your child returns to school. (please don’t delete the text we sent regarding this).
Science in a Box
Last week, we had our introduction to the ‘Science in a Box programme for 5th/6th over Zoom. Today was the first official lesson of the programme and it went really well. Our scientist ‘Suzanne’ worked very well with the children and the children really engaged positively with the lesson. Thanks, again, to Eimear Moffat for sponsoring the programme again this year.
Standardised Tests
The standardised tests in English, Irish and Maths will be administered to the pupils in First to Sixth classes on Tuesday (1st ) Wednesday (2nd ) and Thursday (3rd ) of June. The standardised test give an indication of the progress your child is making in these subjects but the class teachers also use their own assessment methods (e.g. class tests etc) in determining progress. School reports will be posted home to all families in mid June.
Literacy Lift Off
For the next two weeks first and second class will continue to develop their literacy skills.
They will bring home their folder today with a selection of P.M. Books for homework each night. These books can be exchanged on Friday. We hope to start Literacy Lift Off with Infant Classes in May.
Summer Holidays
At the most recent Board of Management meeting the Board agreed that the school will close one day earlier for the summer holidays i.e. Thursday June 24th. This is as a result of the school opening one day earlier at the start of the school year (August 26th) and for teachers continuing with remote learning on January 29th when the school was due to be closed.
Sixth Class Graduation
We have PROVISIONALLY set Wednesday June 23rd for the Sixth Class Graduation. Of course due to Covid – 19. This date could change!
School Office
Helen is in the office Monday to Thursday from 9.00a.m. to 2.00p.m. If you are ringing outside of these hours the phone will probably not be answered as teachers will be in their classrooms.
Is mise,
Seamus Tansley.
