11th February, 2014.

A Thuisti,

This week we are celebrating Friendship Week in our school. The aim of the week is to promote friendship and respect towards each other. We will have an assembly on Friday to celebrate Friendship Week.

Today is Safer Internet Day (www.saferinternetday.org) which aims to promote safer and more responsible use of mobile phones and computers amongst young people. We, as parents, need to supervise internet usage of our children. The website www.webwise.ie, which can be accessed through our school website, has useful information for parents on cyber bullying.

Swimming lessons for First, Second and Sixth classes finishes tomorrow (Wednesday 12th). It was a pleasure bringing the children swimming. There were well behaved and listened attentively to their swimming instructors. The help we received from parents at the pool was greatly appreciated.

There is a ‘Literacy Lift Off ’ information meeting for parents/guardians of Senior Infant pupils in the school on Thursday February 13th at 1.45p.m. The Senior Infant pupils will be supervised for the duration of the meeting.

Enrolment for Junior Infants for September 2014 takes place from February 17th to 19th from 1.40p.m. to 2.40p.m. If you wish to enrol your child please come to the office on any of the above dates. Please bring your child’s birth certificate so we can copy it for our records. If you know any neighbours/friends that would like to enrol a child please let them know.

Our rugby coach from Ashbourne Rugby Club will be visiting the school this Thursday from 11.00a.m. until midday with three cups (including Rabo Direct and Amlin Challenge). The children can wear their school tracksuits and a rugby jersey if they have one. Parents are invited to come to the school to take photographs.

Well done to our five teams that participated in the Tara & District Credit Union quiz last week. They all seemed to enjoy the evening and they represented the school very well. One of our U11 teams came second and won prizes. A big congratulations to them.

We would like to remind parents of the ‘Sign in/Sign Out’ book in the office. If your child arrives late to school or is taken out of school early, the book must be signed by the parent/guardian.

The vision screening nurse will visit the school tomorrow (Wednesday12th) to check the eyesight of pupils in Junior Infants.

Due to Health & Safety reasons children aren’t allowed to play on the yard at hometime. Junior & Seniors aren’t allowed play when they are collected at 1.40p.m. We respectfully request that you observe this request.

The school will close at the normal time on Wednesday 19th Febuary for the mid-term break. The school will re-open at 9.00a.m. on Tuesday February 25th.

Is mise,

Seamus Tansley.
