20th December, 2021.
A Thuisti,
Although we finish 2021 with the cloud of Covid 19 in our society we can look back positively at what we have achieved in the school since September – Opening of ‘The Hideaway’, Mindfullness classes, Computer classes, Gaelic Football coaching, Book Fair, Roald Dahl Day, Science Week, Maths Week, Science-in-a-Box, School Open Day, Credit Union Art Competition, Cake Sale and Christmas Raffle. This wouldn’t have been achieved without the excellent collaboration of the pupils, staff and parents/guardians. Thank you.
Christmas Raffle
The Student Council Christmas Raffle takes place this Wednesday. Firstly, I must thank our Student Council members for organising the raffle (Katie, Cian, Eoin and Saoirse). Secondly, a big thanks to everyone who donated items. We have two hampers and a €50 voucher form ‘Plate and Palette’ (Dunshaughlin). As well as these three big prizes we have approximately 20 mini-prizes of sweets, selection boxes etc. Tickets will be on sale again tomorrow. Best of Luck to all the children who entered the raffle.
Skryne Ladies
We had a welcome surprize from the Skryne Ladies football team last Wednesday! They brought the cup to the school which they won after they defeated St. Pats recently. It was particularly pleasing to meet our two past pupils Ruth Moore and Coleen Jordan. Coleen was captain of the Rathfeigh Girls’ team on their last victory in the Cumann na mBunscol competition in 1999!!. Pictures of the team visiting the school can be seen on the school Facebook page.
‘The Hideaway’
It’s not too often that a Minister visits the school! So it was a nice surprise when Helen Mc Entee T.D. visited the school on Tuesday to see ‘The Hideaway’ We had a good chat with Helen about the impact of Covid-19 on the well-being of our children. She was very impressed with ’The Hideaway’ and wished us the best of luck in our endeavours! Please visit our Facebook page, for pictures of Helen Mc Entee at ‘The Hideaway’
Incidental Inspection
Our school inspector visited the school in November. As well as visiting classes there was also a focus on the school’s measures to tackle bullying. Please find attached the ‘Incidental Inspection – Note on school measures to prevent and tackle bullying.’
Christmas Holidays
The school closes at 12 noon this Wednesday December 22nd for the Christmas holidays. There is no school bus on Wednesday at noon. We are due to re-open on Thursday January 6th 2022. Of course with the emergence of the highly transmissible Omicron variant nothing is certain. With this in mind we are asking the children to bring home their school books tomorrow in the event that schools are closed after Christmas.
If your child won’t be in school tomorrow or Wednesday please make arrangements with another family to collect the books. The school closes at 12noon on Wednesday this will be the latest time to collect the books.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone in the Rathfeigh School Community a safe and enjoyable Christmas and we hope, all being well, to see everyone back in school on January 6th.
I finish with a quote of positivity for 2022.
“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day”
Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Is mise,
Seamus Tansley.
Priomh Oide.
