A Thuisti,

Covid 19

The daily numbers of Covid-19 positive cases is averaging around 3,000 with very high rates among the 5 to 12 year old age groups. We have done very well in the school since the start of the pandemic and most credit must go to parents/guardians for not sending their children to school when they are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19. However, a number of children are coming to school with coughs. Children coming to school with coughs may result in other children and staff getting viruses and a result may be absent from school. We need everyone in the Rathfeigh School Community to continue to work together to minimise the risks of Covid-19 in our school. Thanks.

Parent Teacher Meetings

We will be conducting our Parent/Teacher meetings by phone again this year due to Covid-19. Below are the details for the various classes. We will put a day and time in your child’s journal for the meeting. Hopefully this will suit but if not the class teacher can make other arrangements. Please state in your child’s journal whether Mum or Dad is to receive the phone call for the meeting.

Mindfulness and Well-Being

Una Curran started the first of six lessons in Mindfulness and Well-Being in all classes last Wednesday. These classes will undoubtedly benefit the children. Please find attached a letter from Una Curran which gives an outline of what the children will experience in the lessons. The Board of Management is paying 50% of the cost of the lessons so the cost per child for the 6 lessons is €6. Please send in the money in an envelope with your child’s name on it.

Computers

This Wednesday is the last of the four sessions that the children will have Colm for computer classes. The classes have been very beneficial and we have seen a big improvement in the children’s digital literacy skills already. If you haven’t paid the €7 per child for these lessons please do so tomorrow ( money in an envelope with your child’s name on it please).

Gaelic Football Coaching

Damien Sheridan will be returning for Gaelic Football coaching for a further few weeks. The coaching will now take place on Thursdays.

Fundraiser

A big thanks to our Parents’ Association for running the very successful ‘Cash for Clobber’ fundraiser during the Halloween break. A big thanks, also, to everyone who dropped off clothes etc and to everyone who participated in the “ Guess the Weight of the Clobber” competition. The total weight of all the “Clobber” was 1,480 kg. Johnny Geraghty had the closest guess (1490). Congratulations Johnny.

Student Council

We have a new Student Council consisting of pupils from 3rd to 6th class – Saoirse (6th) Eoin (5th) Cian R. (4th) and Katie (3rd). We had our first meeting on Friday. The ideas from the children were excellent and we hope to be able to implement the vast majority of these ideas. If your child has any ‘ideas’, they should mention it to one the Student Council members and they can let me know.

Art Classes

Please find attached a flyer from Ms. Reynolds who will be doing art classes for four weeks before Christmas.

Science Week

This week is Science Week. We will be doing a variety of science lessons over the course of the week. The children, in some classes, will be uploading their science experiments to Edmodo for homework. If you google ‘Science Week 2021’ you can get ideas for Science Week which can be done with your child at home. Please also check the TV schedule as RTE has some interesting science programmes daily.

Board of Management

We have a Board of Management meeting this evening on Zoom.

Ashbourne Fire Brigade

Members of Ashbourne Fire Brigade will be visiting 3rd and 4th class this Friday.

Is mise,

Seamus Tansley.
