Happy New Year – 2019
I would like to wish parents/guardians, staff and most importantly all the children a happy and safe 2019.
Enrolment Week
Enrolment Week is from February 4th to February 9th. If your child is starting school in September 2019 please call to the office and collect an enrolment form from Helen. If you know any parents/guardians who have children starting school in September please let them know of our Enrolment Week. Parents/guardians can come to the school any time during Enrolment Week to view the school and collect an enrolment form.
Computer Classes
The computer classes in November were a great success. We got great feedback from the children and parents/guardians. We have computer classes again for the next four Wednesdays (9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th ). The cost of the four lessons is €5.00 per pupil. Please send in the money in an envelope as soon as possible.
Having a computer room is a great addition to the school. I am hoping to have computer classes for adults at some stage in this school year. If you know anyone who would be willing to teach computer lessons in the evening time please let me know. If anyone is interested in improving their I.T. skills and would be interested in these classes please contact Helen in the office.
Social, Personal and Health Education SPHE
As part of the SPHE programme the pupils in 5th and 6th will be doing the “Learning to become Socially Talented Children” programme this term. This programme deals with issues that affect children e.g. feelings, anger, communication, friendship etc. As part of the programme the children will be completing worksheets at home and at school. It is important that parents/guardians discuss the worksheets with their children at home.
Science in a Box
We will be resuming Science in a Box next week with 5th and 6th class pupils. For the next five weeks we will have a new scientist (Lisa) working with the children. A big thanks to Clare who did a great job teaching the children during November and December.
Hurling
Hurling training for all classes resumed today with Aileen from Kilmessan Hurling Club. This will continue (weather permitting) for the next four weeks.
Attendance
Regular attendance has a positive impact on teaching and learning. Our ‘Statement of Strategy for School Attendance’ is on the school website. Parents/guardians should be aware of its content. Some of the main aspects of the policy are:
- School attendance is recorded on the AlelenHHh
- addin system at 10.00a.m. each morning.
- When a child is absent the parent/guardian must inform the class teacher by means of an Absence Note and explain the reason for the absence.
- A letter will be sent to the parents/guardians at the end of the school year to inform them of the school’s obligation to report to Tusla if their child has missed 20 days or more.
