A Thuisti,
Internet Safety Day
February 6th is Internet Safety Day. The theme this year is “Create, Convert and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you”. Saferinternet .ie is well worth logging onto as it has resources for families as well as schools. All classes will be doing activities on Tuesday to celebrate Internet Safety Day.
Green Schools Exhibition
The Green Schools Exhibition takes place in the RDS on Thursday February 22nd. We have obtained 25 tickets for this event. We have decided to take 5th class to the event as well as the children on our Green Schools Committee. Our time slot for the exhibition is 1.30p.m. to 3.30p.m. We will, therefore, be leaving by bus at 12.00 noon. The Expo will have exhibits from Ireland’s top Green-Schools, workshops and activities for the children. The event should give the children great ideas which will help us in our quest for a ‘Green Flag’ for our school. A huge thanks to Eimear Moffat for letting us know about this event as well as paying for the bus.
Student Council
We had a very productive meeting last Friday with our new student council members. As a result of this meeting we will be having a Talent Show with an Irish theme to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day as well as having an Easter Bunny raffle before Easter time the proceeds of which will go towards the purchase of footballs.
School Uniform
In October I informed parents/guardians that the current grey tracksuit would be the school uniform for the 2018/19 school year (Imlitir 7) as there had been a large outlay by parents/guardians purchasing these uniforms. The Board of Management will be discussing the school uniform at the next meeting in March and we will give everyone plenty of notice if we are to contemplate changing the uniform for the 2019/20 school year.
Pancake Tuesday/Ash Wednesday
Sixth class pupils will be making pancakes for all pupils in the school on February 13th. We will need a few parents/guardians to help out on the day. Please let the class teacher know if your child is not to get a pancake. Our school is a ‘Nut Free’ school. The Administration of Medicines Policy is on the school website.
Fr. Thomas usually visits the school on Ash Wednesday. If your child is not to get the ‘Ashes’ please let the class teacher know.
Swimming
First, Second and Sixth classes will be going swimming in Navan Swimming Pool for five weeks from February 22nd to March 22nd (Thursdays) during school. The Parents’ Association have very generously paid €1000 towards the cost of the buses. The cost for five lessons is €30.00 per pupil. Please send in the money in an envelope as soon as possible. Third, Fourth and Fifth classes will be swimming after Easter (Mondays) for six weeks. The cost for six lessons is €36.00. The Swimming Policy is on the school website.
Half-Day School Closure
The school will close at 12 noon on Friday March 2nd. ( There is a school bus at 12 noon) All schools are permitted to take two half days to allow time for the staff and Board of Management to engage with the new ‘Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools 2017’, to access online support modules and to produce a Child Safeguarding Statement as well as a Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment.
