A Thuisti,

Halloween Fancy Dress

One of the many highlights of the school year is the excitement of the children dressing up for Halloween. We are hoping that all children will once again come to school on Friday October 23rd dressed up in scary outfits. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to have parents/guardians come to the school to see the outfits.

Pumpkin Competition

We introduced the pumpkin competition a number of years ago. The children (with some help from parents/guardians carving out the pumpkins) would design their pumpkins at home and bring them to school on the day of the Halloween Fancy Dress. This year the children will design their pumpkins at home as usual but won’t bring them to school. Instead please take a photo of your child next to their completed pumpkin and upload it to their relevant class Edmodo. We will have a small prize for the top three in each class.

Maths Week

This week we will be celebrating Maths Week. Most classes will have maths problems for homework each night this week. Please log onto mathsweek.ie

Click on ‘Resources’ ‘Primary Schools’ and then the class grouping your child is in. There are numerous interesting activities for the children to do. Please let the class teacher know of interesting activities that you may come across.

Secondary Schools

All parents/guardians of 6th class children should have contacted various secondary schools about application deadline dates. Failure to return forms to these schools at the appropriate deadline dates may result in your child not being offered a place in schools.

Credit Union Art Competition

The children in First to Sixth are taking part in the Credit Union Art Competition ‘Imagine More’ They have been given the entry forms and paper. The closing date is October 23rd but we are also picking a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each class so they must be returned to the school by October 20th. Best of Luck to all pupils. The pupils in Juniors/Seniors will be doing a Halloween colouring competition instead in school.

‘Zoom’/ Edmodo

In the event that the school is closed due to Covid 19 in the future we will be using Zoom and Edmodo on a daily basis. If/when the school is closed in the future we will put up a timetable on the website. We intend that most classes will have two ‘Zoom’ sessions daily with follow-up work on Edmodo. Attendance is fully expected for Zoom sessions. Absences will be recorded on the Aladdin computer system as usual. Mrs Campbell will have a timetable also for the children attending Learning Support.

Active First Responders

Active first responders are available for community support during the increased restrictions. They are happy to help out with light shopping, post collection or drops and medication collection. Please contact the support number (086-8853713) 9.00a.m. to 5.00p.m.if you know somebody that might need some extra help in these difficult times.

Photographs

Suzanne from Circus Photography is visiting the school on Wednesday October 14th to take our annual Junior Infant class photo (which will be a composite shot of the children).

If you wish Suzanne will also take individual and/or sibling photographs for the whole school.

Last Monday we e-mailed parents/guardians the information from Suzanne.

If you haven’t completed the online permission slip please do so today.

Online Payments

Our online payment system will be active in the next few days. Further details will be e-mailed to you today.

If you don’t receive an email from us today please let Helen know.
