16th September, 2013.

A Thuisti,

The Literacy Lift Off reading programme starts tomorrow Tuesday 17th for second class pupils and it will run for approximately six weeks. I would like to thank Mrs Mc Auley and Mrs Long for all their preparatory work and in the pre-testing of all the children. We are confident that the Literacy Lift Off Programme will be a great success again this year.

We are constantly encouraging the children to speak some ‘gaeilge’ around the school. Each week we have a ‘Frása na seachtaine’ (phrase of the week) and a ‘Briathar na Seachtaine’ (verb of the week). Please encourage your children to use these phrases at home on a regular basis. All the phrases will be on the school website (www.rathfeighns.org)  in the next week or so.

Every Wednesday for 28 weeks (starting on September 25th) the Irish Independent will have an educational supplement focussing mainly on gaeilge, maths and english. These supplements will be very beneficial to children in First to Sixth classes. The cost per pupil in these classes is €7.00 (only 25cent per week) This year the eldest child in each family needs to get the Irish Independent.

The Boys’ gaelic football team won their first game last week against Kilmessan.

The Girls’ gaelic football team are playing in Baconstown on Thursday (19th September). We will be leaving the school at 2.30p.m. We will need help with lifts.

The cost per pupil for Art & Craft is €20 and insurance is €8 . If you haven’t already paid please do so as soon as possible (in an envelope with child’s name and class on it).

Ms. Campion will continue to teach Third & Fourth classes in Mrs Vaughan’s absence.

On Wednesday (September 25th) the school will close at 1.40p.m. for all classes to facilitate a planning meeting for the teachers.

There is a Board of Management meeting on Thursday September 26th.

Please note the school calendar for 2013/14 is on the inside of your child’s homework journal. Infants will be given a copy of the calendar to take home today.

The school will be closed on Friday October 4th for the Seanad and Court of Appeal Referendums.

If you are paying the Voluntary Contribution by cheque please make the cheque payable to The Board of Management Rathfeigh N.S.

We ask all parents to put their children’s name on all school uniforms/tracksuits as this makes it easier to return mislaid items to the owner.

Credit Union: commenced Friday September 13th a parent comes into the school every Friday and on behalf of Tara & District Credit Union takes lodgements from pupils who wish to save with their local Credit Union. Application forms are available from the school office and pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth may join. New members welcome.

Is mise,

Seamus Tansley.
