Dear Parents/Guardians,
Chess
I would like to thank all our pupils who participated in chess games against pupils from Skryne N.S. on January 14th. The children in both schools played in a very friendly and sporting manner which was lovely to see. As the day was a great success we hope to return the favour to Skryne and visit then before Easter for more chess games. We would encourage more pupils to take up the games as it has cognitive, emotional and social benefits.
Road Safety
All classes were visited on Tuesday by a Road Safety Officer from Meath County Council to discuss Road Safety – safety around school, footpaths, pedestrian crossing, traffic lights, walking on public road, cycling etc. The presentations were age appropriate and very beneficial. We are hoping to receive ‘High Vis’ vests from Meath County Council in the next few weeks.
Catechist Visit
All classes were visited by the Catechist from the Meath Diocese on January 12th. She was very impressed with the interactions she had with the children in all classes and she wished everyone well in their preparation for the upcoming Confirmation and First Communion ceremonies.
Rugby Coaching
I have organised Rugby Coaching for the pupils in 3rd-6th class for a four week session in February.
Swimming
The children in 1st-4th class will be going swimming for 6 weeks starting on February 6th. The cost of the lessons (including bus) is €60. Please pay via Aladdin or in cash if preferable. Swimming forms part of the aquatic strand of the P.E. curriculum.
If you are having financial difficulty please contact the school.
Relationships and Sexuality Education
Over the next 4/5 weeks the children in all classes will have lessons in the Relationships and Sexuality strand of the SPHE curriculum. It also forms part of the new Wellbeing curriculum as per the NCCA Primary Curriculum Framework (2023). The school’s RSE Policy can be viewed on the school website. A hard copy is available on request from the office. “Relationships and Sexuality Education in Primary School Tips for Parents” is well worth viewing. Google “RSE in the primary school tips for parents”.
Gaelic Football Coaching
We have acquired the services of a GAA coach (Paul) starting today. All classes will be engaging with the coach over the course of 6 weeks and we hope they engage positively with the classes.
‘Boost to Literacy’
Over the course of the next 4/5 weeks the children in First Class will be engaging with the ‘Boost to Literacy’ initiative. The children will have reading daily at home for homework. Please sign the ‘Reading Record Sheet’ daily after listening to your child’s reading.
