Dear Parents/Guardians,
Boost to Literacy
Flu is circulating and the community, with children being significantly affected.
We will be starting the ‘Boost of Literacy’ initiative with the children in First Class next week. The children will be given some reading each night at their own ability level. Please listen to your child reading each evening and please sign the Reading Record Sheet.
Swimming
The children in First to Fourth Class will be going swimming in Navan Swimming Pool for 6 weeks starting on February 6th. The cost per pupil (including bus) is €60. We thank the Parents’ Association for paying €500 towards the cost of buses.
HSE Public Health Advice
The HSE gives the following health advice for parents/guardians at this time of the year
· If your child is unwell he/she should remain at home to help prevent the spread of infection.
· Cough and sneeze etiquette, along with regular hand hygiene, are essential to limiting the spread of illness.
Admission for 2026/2027 School Year
January 16th 2026 is the date we will cease accepting applications for admissions to Junior Infants for the 2026/2027 school year. If your child is starting school this September please send in an application form this week. Late applications will be considered in accordance with the school’s admission policy. The school’s Admission Policy and Admission Statement are on the school website. A hard copy is available from the office.
Stay Safe
All classes will be doing the Stay Safe Programme over the next four weeks. The Stay Safe Programme is a personal safety skills programme designed for use with primary school children for Junior Infants to Sixth class. The programme seeks to enhance children’s self-protective skills by participation in lessons on safe and unsafe situations, bullying, inappropriate touch, secrets, telling and stranger danger. It also teaches them that they should always tell (an adult that can help) about any situation which they find unsafe, upsetting, threatening, dangerous or abusive.
Chess
We have invited pupils from Skryne N.S. to visit the school this Wednesday for a mini-chess competition. We have a number of children in 3rd-6th class who play chess that are interested in playing against the children in Skryne. It’s a fun competition which we hope the children will enjoy.
